Through the lens of my camera I have witnessed unique moments with the National Ballet of Cuba. In the moment each encounter brings with it new sensations provoked by the virtuosity of the ballerinas and the magic emanating from the stage. Later I find the images live up to my expectations. I spend some time with them and find there is always something hidden, out of reach, insistent that escapes me. From that moment on my lens is trained on the stage. The world I see is an unexplored one, which explodes after the first dazzling appearence of the ballerinas, after each jump, each turn. Between the applause and the adoration I cross the line separating me from this imaginary world and go backstage. Now there are no limits to what I want to shoot, or what feels like almost the same thing, live. The perfect swans, which seem to float on the lake, are now in front of me, thanks to the candid intimacy of the camera. I see how flesh and blood
